Data Entry Work At Home Jobs Details
There are some data entry jobs, such as those often classified as Virtual Assistants, which are really work from home, but full time positions. However, the majority of data entry work at home jobs are part time, contract positions which make them ideal for anyone wanting to supplement a full time job or just bring additional money in to the household.
Traditionally, data entry has consisted of the same type of typing work found in a traditional office such as organizing reports, transcribing letters, filling out mailing labels, etc. Newer technolgoies encourage the use of static images and even audio and video materials for integration with the text. The Internet has opened many possibilities in this industry. Work once considered data entry, such as processing orders in a call center, which previously could only be done at an employer's site, can now be done from home. Many temporary or seasonal jobs fall into this category as well. For example, data entry jobs consisting of entering tax form information into a computer system from a scanned document are now done by people working from home rather than in large processing centers.
Independent companies have been created to act as middlemen for data entry jobs. Although they may pay a little less than if a typist obtained the job on his or her own, benefits include not having to take the time to market one's services and a more steady stream of work over the long run.
If you are pursuing any kind of data entry job, work from home or otherwise, it is advisable to ask questions and be very clear about what the expectations are for the position since some companies use the term "data entry" as a catch-all phrase for any type of secretarial work and that may be beyond the scope of what you are looking for.
